Oil on canvas, unsigned, with label from Nicholas M. Acquavella, NY. 29 1/2 x 25 in., 38 x 33 in. (frame). Note: This portrait was attributed to John Singleton Copey by Albert Rosenthal in 1931. However, more recent scholarship determined that it was not by the artist. Original documentation accompanies the lot. Provenance: Collection of the Earl of Coventry, Worcestershire; sold Parke-Bernet, Nov. 4, 1938, lot 58; with John ley Galleries 1940; with Ferargil 1941; Private Collection.

Condition:Lined. Original canvas does not wrap around stretcher. Scattered areas of inpainting. Unobstrusive cracquelure. An area of inpainting top left edge, a made-up area. Surface soiling. A few surface scuffs and scrapes.
