Two Italian Carved Walnut and Leather Curule Chairs

The first arms carved with scroll design, the second with arms carved with acanthus leaves.

The first 35 x 27 x 22 in., height of seat 18 1/2; the second 35 x 28 x 22 in., height of seat 18 1/2 in.

Provenance:The chair on the left Butterscotch Auction Gallery, Pound Ridge, NY, October 15, 2000, Lot 55. The other chair Sotheby's Arcade, NY, July 23, 1998, Lot 391.

Condition:

Each with wear consistent with age and use. Some losses to the finish. The leather with degradation and tears. Fading and cracking. Will need to be replaced or repaired. The first chair lacking a nail head. Otherwise structurally sound and in good condition.
