Two Italian Carved Walnut Savonarola Chairs
The first with back carved with lion over a medallion shield, the second back carved with central portrait medallion.
The first 43 x 35 1/2 x 18 in., height of seat 19 1/2 in.; the second 45 x 29 1/2 x 18 in., height of seat 19 in.
Provenance:The chair on the left sold Fontaine's, NY, October 12, 2002, Lot 227. The chair on the right sold Skinner, Boston, MA, April 28, 2007, Lot 523.
Condition:
The first with wear consistent with age and use. Scattered losses and age splits. Otherwise structurally sound and in good condition. The second with wear consistent with age and use. Some losses to the decoration. Otherwise structurally sound and in good condition.
